The Master in Finance program equips participants with up-to-the minute knowledge in key areas of finance such as leveraged buy-outs, credit derivatives or mergers and acquisitions. The program will play a pivotal role in increasing candidate appeal in recruitment processes for leading financial institutions, such as investment banks, private equity or asset management. This is a program focusing on finance, in line with the demand of the recruiting market in the financial arena and designed to enable participants to prepare for interviews, which could start as early as autumn. Further areas covered include macroeconomics, financial accounting, financial entrepreneurship, presentation skills and negotiation. In addition to finance courses, students will be required to undertake level I of the CFA Charter, the most renowned qualification for finance professionals worldwide.

  • Appealing final exam options, including: academic case studies; CFA Equity Research Competition projects; equity research and IPO valuation projects; valuation of a company owned by a private equity firm; academic research; or a microfinance case study

Student Profile

Students with an outstanding academic record who have just completed their undergraduate studies and young professionals with up of 18 months of full-time work experience and who aim to pursue a career as analyst in investment banking (corporate finance, equities, fixed income derivatives, etc.), financial boutiques, hedge funds, private equity, private banking, asset management on the finance area of a corporation, or as an entrepreneur with a financial angle.

Structure

The program is divided into three periods. In the first two periods, students are required to mandatorily take all subjects. In the third period, however, they have the option of choosing electives according to their preferences. 

The Master in Finance electives include many of the most fashionable topics in finance, in order to meet the needs of students who wish to work in these specific areas in the future. These electives allow students to develop their own career strategy, and adapt the program according to market and company requirements. Furthermore, it provides companies with a global understanding of the knowledge acquired by the student. These electives are shared with the Master in Advanced Finance program.

Requirements

To be considered for admission, a candidate must have successfully completed the following prior to submission:

  • A Bachelor degree at an accredited college/university (or equivalent).
  • GMAT, GRE or CFA level I. The test result from one of these exams is a prerequisite for admission.
  • English Language Certificate (Pearson PTE, TOEFL, Cambridge or IELTS) for all non-native applicants
  • A complete application for evaluation by the Admissions Committee, including all supporting documents.

Admission

The IE Business School admissions process is composed of a series of interactions with different members of the IE Community to ensure candidate suitability, commitment to professional and personal development within the changing context of innovation and a willingness and capacity to embrace multicultural management. The demanding nature of the Master in Finance means that the large numbers of candidates are subject to a rigorous selection process. The main objective of the admissions process is to select students with the highest potential.

Fees and Enrolment

The tuition fees for the September 2011 intake of the Master in Finance total €34,200.

Fees include:

• All expenses related to learning activities, including, but not limited to: access to relevant technology, multimedia learning tools, conferences, access to physical and digital library resources, language training courses and access to the various IE Centers of Excellence

• A contribution to the IE Foundation

Candidates pay a non-refundable application fee of 120€ to cover administrative costs.

Admission is valid for two intakes from the date of admission, allowing the successful applicants to plan their learning experience. In order to secure a place, prospective students are requested to pay a Place Reservation of 6.200€ (5,000€ + 1,200€ Contribution to the IE Foundation).

Financial Aid

IE Business School’s Financial Aid Department currently offers a host of loan agreements, scholarships and other financial aid options to help you fund your studies of the Master in Finance. We definitely recommend you apply for financing options as early as possible, as financial resources are limited and competition is high!

After Enrolment

Once enrolled, IE´s Student Office is at your disposal to help you with all aspects of your move to Spain; from immigration and housing issues, to social events and support for your family or partner if they are joining you. The Student Office works towards making your IE Experience a smoother and an altogether more enjoyable one.

Your main point of contact with all the different departments part of your IE experience will be the Campus Online where all announcements from the Academic Department, the Student Office and other departments will be posted. Once you have access, don’t forget to check it regularly!
